Intersputnik, as an international organisation, pursues the underlying principles of open and mutually beneficial cooperation, and supports the initiatives of the UN, ITU and other intergovernmental entities seeking to use space technologies to improve the quality of life on Earth. Today, no human activity, including agriculture, construction, healthcare, education, natural assets management, finance, transportation and others, can advance without using satellite services. Building a safe and sustainable space environment, optimal use of near-Earth space and any space resources, as well as equal and non-discriminatory access to outer space are the key factors driving the further harmonious development of the humanity. This cannot be achieved without adopting and complying with international rules of peaceful use of outer space.

The main international forum to address and discuss legal matters related to the exploration and use of outer space is the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), in whose activities Intersputnik takes part as a permanent observer. The activities of international intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations relating to space law are annually addressed by the Legal Subcommittee of COPUOS under an individual agenda item.

The results of Intersputnik’s work in the field of space law in 2023 are described in its annual report on activities relating to space law presented at the 63rd session of the Legal Subcommittee of COPUOS. Intersputnik report was published on the website of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), acting as the secretariat of COPUOS, and shows Intersputnik’s commitment to promoting the development and improvement of international regulation of space activities. The text of the report is available for review in six languages at
